A Somali national has pleaded guilty to being in possession of a fake driving licence and with causing a traffic accident when he failed to observe a stop sign.

Hassan Abdala Mohamed, 21 admitted to having and using a fake international driver’s licence on and before Saturday.

He also admitted to driving his Hyundai Accent negligently and dangerously and crashing into a Chevrolet Matiz, slightly injuring a passenger inside.

The accident happened on Saturday at 2.15pm in Fgura.

The court heard that the car was licensed and fully insured.

Magistrate Marseann Farrugia warned the accused that the crimes carried a maximum punishment of four years and four months in jail although defence lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores called for a leaner sentence in view of the early admission.

The magistrate put off the case for judgment.

Police Inspector Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.
